Houses | foxground

This rural residence is nestled in Foxground, a picturesque valley just north of Berry, NSW, offering sweeping views of rural pastures and rainforest escarpments.

The architectural concept envisions the structure as a modern interpretation of traditional “farm” buildings, thoughtfully arranged. These distinct forms include the main house (housing the primary living area and attic bedroom), the silo (serving as guest and studio spaces), and the barn (providing room for guests and a garage). To maximise passive solar design principles and capture the scenic vistas to the north and east across the valley and escarpment, the design orients itself predominantly toward the north and east.

The chosen materials and color palette reinforce the rural character while defining the unique roof and building forms. Elements like hip roofs, dormer windows, gables, timber accents, and the circular corrugated steel “silo” shape all contribute to achieving this vision.

The underlying concept focuses on these buildings harmonising with the surrounding rural landscape, drawing inspiration from traditional imagery rather than adopting a completely recessive architectural style.
