Public | illawarra employment & teaching campus

The aim of the design of the Illawarra Employment and Teaching Campus was to design a built form which established a campus style precinct within the natural environment, and integrated with the surrounding context. It establishes its identity as an isolated precinct in close proximity to Dapto Town Centre, having a high quality built form which is compatible with future urban growth and form, and compliments the town centre and existing infrastructure.

The buildings are set out with the address to the street with a setback which reinforces its relationship to the street pattern and urban framework of Dapto.

The “Main Street” circulation pattern promotes pedestrian use and active functions along the axis at ground and first floor to provide a dynamic, accessible, socially integrated and safe environment for students and teachers. The design of the “Central Park” outdoor gathering / recreation space is activated by surrounding student functions.

This 6 star rated development (Green Star) integrates the natural environment as “green fingers” which are inserted through the site. The internal “Green” atrium and placement of buildings maximises natural daylight and ventilation. Other environmentally sustainable design principles include waterless urinals, grey water recycling garden irrigation, low-e glazing and external shading devices.
