Architecture | black beach amenities

BHI Architects were selected by Kiama Municipal Council to prepare the design for a new public amenities building. The site is the general area adjacent to Black Beach known as School Flat.

Green initiatives were what drove the design process to create an environmentally sensitive structure. Green features include a green roof, simple system of louvered openings and screens to promote ventilation, green walls to the front face of the building, photovoltaic and hot water panels, and robust and low maintenance material selection.

The amenities building has been designed to push back into the grassed bank at the end of the exposed cliff face, as apposed to sit forward, as an independent structure. This will give the building a recessive, grounded presence and therefore minimise the impact that it will have on the surrounding area, and prominent views.
